Stainless Steel 309 is Austenitic chromium-nickel steel that has high oxidation and corrosion resistance at elevated temperatures. Its chemical composition typically consists of 22-24% chromium and 12-15% nickel, while manganese, silicon, and carbon levels are trace. The composition qualifies the alloy due to its application in furnace, heat exchanger, and exhaust systems in high-temperature ranges. Excellent strength and toughness with good weldability and formability characterize its mechanical properties. Tensile strength ranges between 515 to 700 MPa. Yield strength ranges between 205 and 500 MPa. Resistance to scaling and corrosion for environments that are moderately aggressive.
