Stainless Steel 409 coil is a ferritic grade with a major content of iron, chromium (11-13%), and minor content of carbon, manganese, and silicon. Its excellent resistance to oxidation and corrosion makes it highly used in exhaust systems of automotive and heat exchangers. The mechanical properties of this alloy are good strength, high-temperature resistance, and moderate formability. The main advantages of the alloy are lower cost compared to other stainless steels, weldability, and resistance to sulfur compounds. It also provides resistance in moderately corrosive environments.
