AWS Class ER317L is a stainless steel welding wire composed of approximately 19% chromium, 13% nickel, 3.5% molybdenum, and 0.03% carbon due to its high molybdenum content which provides good resistance to sulfuric and sulfuric acids. This alloy is known for its highest strength after welding and resistance to intergranular corrosion. AWS Class ER317L is primarily used for welding austenitic stainless steels such as 317 and 317L. Offering excellent corrosion resistance and oxidation and pitting in a variety of environments. ER317L is suitable for incorporation into stainless steel in industries such as pharmaceutical, food processing, pharmaceutical, pulp and in papermaking. The low carbon content reduces the risk of carbide precipitation, making it ideal for applications where post-weld heat treatment is not feasible or practical on the snow.
