Stainless Steel 416 is a martensitic alloy composed primarily of 0.15% chromium, 1.0% sulfur and 12.0-14.0% molybdenum, the rest being steel which offers good mechanical properties, good strength and moderate corrosion resistance. This alloy is magnetic and can be heat treated to increase its hardness. Advantages include ease of machining, high tensile strength and improved corrosion resistance. It is commonly used in applications that require mechanical precision and moderate corrosion resistance, such as aerospace and automotive parts.
