Stainless steel 316H has a composition of 16-18% chromium, 10-14% nickel, and 2-3% molybdenum with higher carbon content at 0.04-0.10%, which is slightly different than the 316-grade. With this composition, it enjoys high strength at elevated temperature. Its mechanical properties feature a yield strength of 205 MPa, tensile strength of 515-690 MPa, and elongation of 40%. The resistance against corrosion, pitting, and oxidation is quite excellent, which is why it is suitable for high temperature environments and aggressive chemical applications, especially in chemical process industries and marine.
